Thanos Makris is a Visual Artist, Art Mediator and Art Conservator. He was born (1979) and grew up in Nafplio and he is now based in Athens. He has a Master in Visual Arts (MFA with distinction) from the Athens School of Fine Arts (2019). He holds a Bachelor Degree in European Civilization, History, and Cultural Studies (2015) and a Diploma in Conservation of Works of Art and Antiquities (2000). Currently, he is pursuing on his PhD thesis in Visual Arts at the Athens School of Fine Arts.
Since 1998 he has been working as an Art Conservator employed by the Greek Ministry of Culture, the German Archaeological School at Athens (for a project at the National Archaeological Museum), and the Austrian Archaeological School in Cairo (Tell - El' Daba, Nile Delta, Egypt). From 2015 he has been working as an Art Mediator/Educator, in association with NEON and Documenta14, and as an Art Lecturer in various State Institutes for Vocational Training. He co-curated the “Gender Melancholia” at The Project Gallery (2021).
Currently, he is working as an Art Mediator and Visual Artist/Educator in collaboration with MOMus – Museum Alex Mylona (since 02/2019).
Work of his is included in public and private collections, in Greece and abroad, such as the Permanent Collection of MOMus – Museum of Contemporary Art – Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and State Museum of Contemporary Art Collections.
