ARCH is happy to invite you to the book launch of Young Predictions by Polys Peslikas on Friday 7th of November at 18:00.
Young Predictions discloses the notes of Cypriot painter Polys Peslikas, written between 2018 and 2025. These fragments—gathered in orbit around paintings made over the same period—reflect openly on the canon of painting both as a revered structure and an unruly and obscenely private, testimonial act. The book invites poet and writer Penelope Ioannou into an exchange with the material, her own notes slipping between Peslikas' as a result of being granted entry into his canvases. Text and painting are placed into a distillery of sorts, where what was once left to its own devices now begins to dilate and react under new conditions. A chemical romance ensues, as Ioannou is drawn in by the seduction of his practice and the grain of his note-taking.
As Young Predictions unfolds through a genre of note exchange, an epistolary dialogue that began in 2020 between Peslikas and curator and writer Alessandro Rabottini charts the transcription of Rabottini's mind as it maps the spatial logic of the work. A confessional sent by artist Andreas Kassapis in 2023 folds into this novella of correspondence: a letter to oneself about the art of seizing and being seized.
Young Predictions renders note-taking into an infinite-like loop: a painter's thoughts speaking and being spoken to. —Penelope Ioannou
