T.A.F./ the art foundation presents the group exhibition ''Comfort Companions'' which inaugurates in its exhibition space on Thursday 18 April 2024, with participating artists: Tzeni Doupi, Nikos Kachrimanis, Ioanna Limniou, Thanos Makris, Nourako, Xenia Papadopoulou, Zoe Sklepa. The exhibition is curated by Thanos Makris.

The comfort object, also known as transitional object or emotional support object, is a psychological tool that helps children transit from one developmental stage toanother by providing them a sense of security. It serves as a bridge between the child and the mother during the stage of absolute attachment, whilst aiding the child in integrating into the social world beyond their mother.

During adulthood, some individuals may use transitional objects to help maintain their mental and psychological well-being. According to surveys conducted in the UK, approximately one-third of the population requires cuddling a stuffed animal in order to sleep soundly.

These observations serve as the basis of this exhibition. Seven visual artists were asked to create their own transitional objects: emotionally supportive acquisitions which they have never been able to abandon. Reasons for this difficulty of detachment could be that often separation is not possible, or that they have intentionally held them intimately, as talismans, throughout their personal evolution. The work of each artist has the dynamics to act as a security blanket, accompanying them on the lonely path of creation, or as aspring board for their posterity. We consider transitional-emotional companions, such as works of art, as whirlpools of positive energy even while functioning as lacrymatories (tear collectors) of our pain or as sound insulators that absorb and contain our inward cry.
