Anastasia Riga creates paintings on small and large scale with oil paints and hagiography powders on canvas. She works this technique by rendering the color expressing the feeling of an undivided surface. Monochromatic paintings but also with more hues evoke the feeling of the uncanny. The viewer observes the painting and an awe of the mysterious and metaphysical emerges from what is depicted, perhaps an imaginary line which separates the sky from the earth in his field of vision. In the solo exhibition Horiz_ON_s she exhibits paintings which has used color as a mean of expression as well as putting emotions across. She is interested in conveying to the viewer a sense of calm similar to the one we have when we gaze at a horizon, free from worries and obligations of the everyday life. She wants to recollect memories through themes which come mainly from elements of nature filtered by an internal process. Through this process, the artist tries to emerge from the surface, images that have been recorded in her memory. She paints through the recall of memory in an attempt to directly capture on the surface experiences, feelings and memories of her own that will end up in the viewer through this process. This unknown and the limitless possibilities of human exploration found in her paintings is perhaps an emotional process that the viewer himself must use in observing the artworks to arrive at his inner calm and introspection. The visitor may find himself lost in a horizon of thoughts, moments, memories of his own life and connection with nature.
