I believe that the man of the future will have a completely new (online) world. Who is this new man? Is the Pierrot or the Harlequin? Golden, Silver or Blue? The Sun or the Moon? Is the new man looking for the rabbit’s moon, a new lover or for the weapon? Doesn’t matter because everything is at the backstage. Gketsis for his first solo show explores a given reality in a non-given district. For Gketsis the space becomes the space exploration of his personal idiosyncrasy. His cosmos consists of a gleaming materiality, gaudy online stories, objects sourced from online stores. He depicts the raw truth of new trends, avoiding the sideways or gilding the pill. His works scream for the survival tactics the new man has to follow to endure. He is not trying to bridge the materiality with the technology, the sociology or an apartment’s space since these are hither and every man belongs to the vastness of the present and the future.

Dimitris Gketsis was born in Athens, Greece in 1993. He graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2016 and in forthcoming September 2017 he will commence his studies at the Royal College of Arts (RCA) for the MA Sculpture Programme in London. In 2014, alongside his studies at ASFA, he was given the opportunity to study under the tutelage of Klasse Olaf Nicolai at the Akademie der Bildenden Kunste in Munich. He has participated in several group projects in Greece and abroad, including the residency program of Art Motile in Madrid. Gketsis has also collaborated with Sergio Zevallos for documenta 14.
