GEORGIA FAMBRIS «Survival Kit» Solo Presentation Curated by Georgia Liapi “All objects which surround us have souls of their own, have human qualities because they only exist in a human world. There are really not objects which man perceives. There are no raw inhuman objects. The moment furniture, houses, bread, cars, bicycles, or other products appear in our life, they are related to us, they are human." —Ernest Dichter, The Strategy of Desire
For the Home of "shedia", Georgia Fambris introduces us to the multidimensional and attractively uncertain world of her painting; presenting new and older works that inform the concept of appropriation and express the emotions and personal experiences of the artist. Current issues as well as personal reflections coexist in a dark and humorous content, creating an environment where all the objects that surround us come to life, while everything seems as familiar as distant. Painting is an instinctive reaction for Fambris, it cannot be demarcated and it does not stop; an interdependent world that expands the limitations of human bodies, with the endless creativity and gesture standing as means of survival. With an emphases on the psychological condition which is expressed through the particularity of the materiality of each work, Fambris explores the feminine figure by deconstructing archetypes of beauty and reinstating behavioral patterns of femininity, with paintings that echo performative art. Absurd compositions with abstract shapes, and some figurative depictions that are deliberately destabilized with the use of random elements such as, intense color spots, clay, spray, collage and stickers. Moments of desperation and delight create a torrential perpetual condition of creation, that sweeps away anything that stands in its way; advertising brochures, construction materials, chairs, magazines, canvases, all forms of surfaces are potential painting surfaces and part of an frenzied (or outrageous) “Survival Kit” needed to go through the hardships of daily life.

A place that has become the meeting point for all these forces of good, forces that unite and work together to make the world a better, fair place for all. Forces that are trying to support people, who have found themselves in a dire situation, to be able to ultimately support themselves. The “home of Shedia” was established as a hub to talk up and provide solutions to social problems, to bring us all one step closer to a just society, to a world without poverty and social exclusion. It aims to energize, empower, train and create job opportunities for those who have experienced extreme poverty.
