FoKiaNou24/7 is pleased to present the work of two textile artists, Sarajane Kidd Leone and Ioanna Terlidou.
Sarajane Kidd Leone began weaving during her roughly fifteen years spent in East Africa. Hailing from a West Texas ranching family, she was inspired by the familiar open, wild landscapes and colors of her childhood. She ran a design atelier catering to the East African safari/hotel industry and to private residences, while also serving as Chairperson to Friends of the Arts of the International School of Kenya, cultivating dynamic local art talent and linking them with the expatriate community through art exhibitions and her work. During hiatuses to New York and Washington, D.C, Leone attended Fashion Institute of Technology and the Torpedo School in Alexandria, Virginia. Since arriving in Greece two years ago, Leone has continued her art on her own and with several groups in Athens.
Ioanna Terlidou, originally from Thessaloniki, studied tapestry and drawing at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts, on a scholarship from EOMMEX (Hellenic Organization of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises and Handicraft). Upon returning to Greece, she set up her studio in Pilion, where she initially worked with a traditional (seated) floor loom. She later moved to a vertical loom, which helped her develop a more personal artistic style. She injects transparency and a play of light in her work, which reveal different aspects and elements of the fabric at different moments; for example, human figures added to the fabric recall shadow theater. Terlidou has shown her work at E-Mi Gallery, Volos; Gallery 7, Athens; the Folkloric Museum of Larissa and the Archaelogical Museum, Volos, among others.
