CURRENT Athens is an online platform for the non-hierarchical promotion of contemporary art.
Queer City is a platform focused in the investigation of the relationship between queerness and life in the contemporary city. It began as a site-specific program in São Paulo, Brazil, and now arrives in Athens along with CAPACETE Residency and AMOQA – Athens Museum of Queer Art. This event is supported by ArtsEverywhere.ca / Musagetes and curated by Jota Mombaça.
Program
-Experiencing the flooding red II (Michelle Mattiuzzi, 2016-, performance)
Altered state of conscientiousness. Ritual. Rite of passage. Mismatch. Funk. Samba. Pagode...
-Cidade Queer – Queer City (Danila Bustamante, 2016, film, 36’)
Bodies that listen, dance, resist, manifest and become visible in our contemporary city. Bodies that dance the sounds of funk music, rap, samba, voguing, waacking, among other sonic styles of contestation, resistance and struggle. Through talks, dinners, experiences and exchanges, a city seeks to discuss how we live, work, share and survive the different LGBT + stories and realities... and how we understand all this through a queer, intersectional and non-normative lens?
The mini-documentary "Cidade Queer - Queer City", directed by Danila Bustamante, takes the name of a 2016 site-specific, collective curatorial process in São Paulo, Brazil. The overall process, film, and related publication, 'Queer City: A Reader' were organized by Lanchonete.org, ArtsEverywhere/Musagetes.
-QUASE SHOW (Mavi Veloso, 2016-, musical performance, 2016)
Quase Show is a musical performance intertwining dance theater sketches with original tracks and some covers (Grace Jones, Hercules & Love Affair, Jessica 6, Mark Ronson & Business Intl etc.). It is a research idealized with Caio and Mavi during coffee and cigarette conversations in Brussels. Later joined by Gabi Venzetta and Maria Tereza Próspero in São Paulo. Now Mavi assumes temporally some solo constructions, personal narratives, incursions and experiments.
Quase Show is part of the project #iwannamakerevolution, a transdisciplinary project with creations in different media appropriating subjects of migration, transits and mutations in the body (male to female process) as performance tool and method. #iwannamakerevolution is also the first project to be part of the Online Residency ArtsEverywhere.ca will be launching at the event.
