Roman Pictural is a key work in the history of contemporary Greek art and a highly original and interesting proposal for a book as a work of art, on a global scale.
Being consistent with his perception of spreading the intellectual theme in art and abolishing uniqueness as an exclusive element of authenticity, Dimitris Condos conceives in 1967 the idea of Roman Pictural as "Art Fiction”; an authentic artwork which has the form, shape and price of a pocket-sized book. A narrative of free associations, whose plot gradually develops through the constantly evolving flow of the artist’s characteristic spiral writing.
Using the structure and easy-to-use functionality of a book, Roman Pictural was originally published in 500 copies at the price of 40 drachmas and was immediately sold out since it was considered a work of art rather than a book copy.
