CURRENT Athens is an online platform for the non-hierarchical promotion of contemporary art.
During her visit to the Venice Biennale in 1990, Elisa Bollazzi collected some small pieces of Anish Kapoor's work that had accidentally fallen on the floor. This incident was the flashpoint for a new project: an extensive collection of artworks, comprised of seemingly insignificant and small pieces of installations and larger works that might otherwise be lost. These are now housed in the Microcollection Museum, where they are registered and can be seen under a microscope during their presentation. Fluxus, Pop Art and Arte Povera, with artists such as Joseph Beuys, Daniel Buren, Tony Cragg and Richard Long, as well as important Italian artists such as Alberto Burri, Piero Gilardi and Giuseppe Penone are represented in the collection. Fragments from the installation "The Year Of Hibernation II" by Panagiotis Voulgaris were recently added to the Microcollection.
In 2008 Elisa Bollazzi launched "Art Sowings" in which small pieces of larger works are sent to various parts of the world, to be planted in the soil, under trees, pots, pavements, gardens and parks. Athens is the next city to welcome this particular sowing, when a fragment from "Albero di 7metri", a work by Giuseppe Penone, will be planted at the entrance to the apartment building housing FokiaNou Art Space .
