18 monographic installations narrate the history of different projects achieved by Renzo Piano Building Workshop and capture the architectural process of all stages, from the vision and concept of the idea to the construction, illustrated through mockups, drawings, photographs and videos.
The exhibition highlights all stages of the architectural creative process and, as the world-acclaimed Italian Architect Renzo Piano notes, “[the show] can clearly transmit something of the complex and shared process through which the buildings we design are conceived, constructed and then inhabited…”
SNFCC is the last stop of the exhibition, which first took place in 2013 at the Gagosian Gallery in New York. The exhibition was also displayed in Padua in 2014 at the Palazzo della Ragione, as part of the International Biennial Architecture, as well as at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai at in 2015. The creation of the exhibition, its tour around the world and, of course, its presence at the SNFCC was solely funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
The Renzo Piano Building Workshop was established in 1981 and has developed some of the most unmistakable landmark projects worldwide including the Parco della Musica Auditorium in Rome, the Morgan Library in New York, the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, the Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago, the New Whitney Museum in New York and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens.
