CURRENT Athens is an online platform for the non-hierarchical promotion of contemporary art.
Michelle Paterok for several years has been exploring in her work the politics of space, urban planning and housing strategies. Space, and access to it has become a vital resource, not unlike access to water. What does it mean today to have a “space of ones’ own?” What strategies—long standing or ad hoc—is one to employ to have access to urban space, transitory or not? Athens is Paterok’s latest stop—after Tokyo and Palestine/Israel—where as the 2018 recipient of the Vorres Museum’s Canadian Artist Residency Programme—she was able to explore the city’s-built environment and the evolving negotiating strategies of access to housing.
