Ingrid Hideki's video art "Like a girl" explores her fem identity by reclaiming every verbal attack that fem/queer individuals may experience simply by existing. By lyrically claiming every action she does "like a girl", Hideki aims to empower the feminine side within. Additionally, she sheds light on the hate speech produced by toxic communities in cyberspace. In a digital fusion of YouTube, You*orn, Twitter and 4chan, "Like a girl" is a poignant reminder that even our digital selves are under attack in our contemporary society.
Through this work, Hideki invites us to contemplate the relationship between our physical and digital identities and to recognize the importance of empowering marginalized groups in all aspects of our lives.
