'The Inner Experience' is a dialogue between British photographer, Michael Grieve and writer, Alexander Strecker. The conversation will explore the development of Grieve's photography, writing and teaching in relation to his early and contemporary influences. Currently, Grieve is exhibiting at Float gallery in Athens, his work entitled The Foriegner [sic], a deeply personal odyssey of impossibility and the desire to embrace life.

Michael Grieve is a British photographer born in 1966 and is currently based in Berlin. He studied a BA and MA in photographic studies at the University of Westminster, graduated in 1997, and proceeded to work on assignments for international publications as a reportage and portrait photographer. He began writing and was for five years the deputy editor of 1000 Words contemporary photography magazine and started teaching as a senior lecturer of photography at Nottingham Trent University, the Akademia Fotografii in Warsaw and the Berliner Technische Kunsthochschule in Berlin. He is a lecturer at Ostkreuzschule in Berlin.
He writes and photographs regularly for the British Journal of Photography and is the co-founder and director of Berlin Foto Kiez International Photography Workshops.
His personal photography projects mainly stem from lived experience, and The Foriegner [sic] is the first in a trilogy of photobooks. Currently he is working on the second called The Problem is the Answer

Alexander Strecker is a Greek-American writer, critic, and journalist. Born and raised in Boston, his interest in photography began at a young age. He went on to study literature and photography at Amherst College, graduating with a BA in 2013. He then moved to Paris, where he became the managing editor of LensCulture, one of the world’s most popular destinations for contemporary photography.
Over the past 5 years, he has helped shape the site’s daily mix of features, interviews, book reviews and video content—all of which reaches a global monthly audience of 3 million photography lovers. He also started and manages the site’s vibrant Instagram feed, which has grown to over 500,000 followers since January 2015. One particular pleasure has been producing LensCulture’s written and video interviews with photographers. These interviews have been conducted all over the world—in studios, at festivals and online —with some of the world’s most accomplished image-makers.
In September, he will begin a PhD in Visual Studies at Duke University.
