The idea for the project STRANGER than a TOURIST started a year ago with the wish to do a work period abroad. I was curious how I would function as a maker in an unknown environment by putting myself in the role of the stranger/tourist.  

The reason I am interested at the social role of the stranger is not only as a subject but I would also like think of the term as a recipe for making. A recipe which I want to learn to cook. The recipe contains both ingredients: being at a distance from the group and at the same time being inextricably part of it. A combination that gives the stranger/ tourist certain sense of freedom but makes him more vulnerable at the same time.

Taking with me the essay by Georg Simmel titled "The Stranger", I wanted not only to look at my own position as stranger/tourist but also to observe other strangers to come in contact and learn from them.
