Victoria Square Project is glad to invite you to NEST Conversations first show in Athens.

NEST Conversations has been in residence at VSP for the last month, and the idea they came out with is an eight-hours interactive & performative event titled "NEST Conversations: unnest #1".

NEST is a nomadic reality, geographically spread like a rhizome that often changes context. The purpose of the series “unnest” comes indeed from the need to reshape the meaning of what is NEST from place to place & time to time.

A nest is generally accepted as symbol of a comfortable place, where to feel safe and protected. Comfort, protection and safety are highly subjective though, and their meaning mostly changes depending on the context, culture and habits of the people.

Therefore, this new format, “unnest”, wants to be an attempt to take NEST’s meaning apart once again, to further explore the dichotomy of comfort/discomfort applied to the different places the project will work in.

The context (meant as a composition of various layers such as economy, ethnicity, cultures, habits, traditions etc) is always the main element of analysis for NEST team.

For this one, they deeply delved into the Athenian’s context where they found a series of issues that are having a major impact, and they called them “macro discomfort”.

Once acknowledged the situation, it seemed problematic for them to focus on the individual and his/her comfort-zone, contrarily defined as “micro discomfort”.

But, necessarily, the macro – society- contains the micro – the individuals-.

It appears essential, then, to try and restore the focus on both the elements: collectivity and singularity. Being aware that the micro will enable to underpin and better understand the macro.

The “unnest” focus in Athens will be therefore around this dichotomy: the study of the macro, yet the recognition of the importance of the micro within it.

The event represents an experiment, a one-month dialogical conversation developed with and through the contribution of different disciplines, genres and artists’ personal philosophical approaches.
