Leon Michail presents his new work of large-scale paintings on Saturday, 13th of January 2024 at a.antonopoulou.art gallery.
Leon Michail's painting technique evolves through thin layers of acrylic paint, applied on the raw and rough surface of the canvas, while constantly moving between the open boundaries of abstraction and representation. By emphasizing on the transparency of his materials and the gestural intensity of his artistic writing, he creates a hazy, eerie atmosphere that surrounds imaginary landscapes.
In his works we identify various stylistic elements of abstract expressionism, harmoniously combined to form his personal artistic approach where dark and semi-bright shades compose a misty world, "bathed" in a mysterious light.
The images he creates invite us to a nostalgic contemplation taking us back in time prior to the appearance of landscape painting as a distinct visual genre, through the origins that defined its emergence, until the exploration and finally the validation of its aesthetic autonomy.
