A Fusion of 3D Printed Ceramic Objects and Photographic Art

Inspired by Santorini's Sea Life and Geologic Topology

The "Above and Below the Sea Level" exhibit the works of three gifted emerging artists, each bringing a unique perspective to the experience.

Nikos Athanasopoulos, Anali Vega, and Yiannis Vogdanis’ works blend seamlessly to produce a captivating spectacle, unveiling a world where art, nature, and technology converge.

The 'Above and Below Sea Level' collection takes us on a journey through cutting-edge 3D printing technology, breathing new life into the ancient art of pottery, creating a wondrous magical world that inspires imagination and awe. The photographic art enriches the exhibition with unique perspectives, capturing the interplay of colors and geological formations of the island. The combination of photography and ceramics find a skilful balance between natural and man-made phenomena, evoking the feeling that all the works are part of the same unique natural ecosystem.

Nikos Athanasopoulos, (Niklas) is a multidisciplinary product designer and focused on the 3D printing of ceramics. His works alternate between pure geometric and free organic volumes. The shapes of his ceramics are created either in computer code or in a digital virtual environment (Virtual Reality). His works have attended numerous exhibitions among them Salone del Mobile Milano, Art Athina, Onassis Cultural Center.

Anali Vega, debuts photographic art that introduces a new perspective to the exhibition, highlighting Santorini's natural formations in a unique and compelling manner. Her focus on the Caldera’s rocks and caves allows her to explore the natural chromatic structure and create mesmerizing visuals. She is a graduate of the Leica Academy School of Photography in Athens, Greece.

Yiannis Vogdanis, is an artist currently based in Athens, Greece. His career started in Rome after graduating from the “Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma.” His area of interest lies at the meeting point of craft, design, and science. Yiannis’ passion to explore and hone his craft led him to live in places like San Francisco, Berlin, and Barcelona, working for universities and high-tech start-ups. In Barcelona, he acquired a master’s degree in advanced interaction design from UPC. More recently, Yiannis has focused on exploring the limits of digital fabrication and creative programming and he has earned recognition for his digital fabrication – the Binary Ceramics platform.
