CURRENT Athens is an online platform for the non-hierarchical promotion of contemporary art.
The exhibition "both, as yet unwearied, will keep pretty well together" aims to talk about the unique identity of the islet of Agios Georgios of Salamis, a place with a long history, whose memory is in danger of being forgotten.
Dimitriadis' work is implemented in two parts. The first one takes place on the specially chartered ferry boat of the line Perama - Salamina, which will run the usual route on roundabouts. It consists of an audio installation with interviews by residents of Salamis that narrate all they remember from the island, as well as a sculptural installation inspired by a story that lingers between reality and fiction. It is said that an elderly inmate of the psychiatric clinic was trying to empty the sea with a basket, trying to communicate with the opposite shore.
The second part of the exhibition is a lighting installation in some of the abandoned buildings on the islet itself, thus conveying the feeling to those on the ferry boat that it is still inhabited. Eventually, where there is nothing left to inhabit, remembrance resides and seems to be the most alive thing washed up on its coast.
