Over the last ten years, Barak Avital's intellectual, curatorial and production activities have focused on her interest in different perspectives on movement and performance and different variations of resistance: in art, in theory and as political action. The global refugee crisis was one motivation, the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and its movement restriction regime another, to explore the way mechanisms of power control and manipulate human movement in public spaces and its effect on our global and local political and economic situation. The medium of expression changes every time, but her motivation remains constant: to expose the political gestures that irrupt when movement hits an obstacle, to learn from them and transform them into action in the world.

During her residency in Athens, Avital will explore public space and mobility in Athens, in the current political context. At the end of her residency she will present her research alongside with her previous work "Border Patrol".

Public presentation: Friday 28/2 at 8.30pm
Entrance is free, reservations required at 1927bts@gmail.com
