Everyday situations stir Reenie Charrière’s (USA) investigations of what lingers in the environment. Her practice involves collecting and transforming everyday materials, especially throwaways including plastics bags, packaging or debris.

As a mixed media artist Charriere playfully pushes materials in unexpected arrangements bringing a surprising beauty to what may otherwise be discarded. Her artworks question our contemporary consumer society and reveal one of the most grave problems of our time: the abundance of global waste.

Motivated by architecture, movement, and space, Charriere’s sculptural installations play upon the unpredictable juxtapositions of natural and synthetic matter.

In her One Artist A Week solo show "In Plain Site", Reenie Charriere will present tapestries and soft sculptures made of synthetic found materials from her home in Oakland, California, and combine them with findings she discovers in Athens.

The exhibition is open from 12 - 7 p.m., except Sunday.
