Lena Platonos has been seminal for the greek queer community since the 80s. Both her lyrics, which express distinct, often lonely subjectivities, and her peculiar theatrical electronic music, keep on enchanting and inspiring queer music scenes and collectives. The event will venture a series of queer readings of Platonos’s work.

In the first part, the musicologist and cultural studies theoretician Nikos Vourdoulas focuses on Platonos’s electronic song-writing, by probing into the ways in which she expresses and emotionally brings together groups of people from the Greek and the international LGBT communities.

In the second part, there will be a variety show with artists from the domestic queer music scene and in particular from the Fytini music label. Andriana Minou, Louiza Doloksa, Alexandros Drosos, Filtig, Kangela Tromokratisch, Mochi, Space Manifesto, Eva Dourou, Nanah Palm, together with the vocal ensemble Filippos Glee will present covers that reinterpret Platonos’s work at another sound, lyrics and performance level. They will be accompanied by the video work of Anastasia Diavasti and Margarita Athanasiou.

The event is a coproduction of the alternative stage of the Greek National Opera and Atopos CVC cultural organization, as part of the TextMe_Lab project and the Athens Municipality-run “Athens 2018 World Book Capital” project.
