Kostas Bassanos in his solo exhibition at Elika Gallery titled The Middle of Nowhere presents a series of works and an in situ installation, where it deals with the concept of space as it is defined and derived from textual references. The artist continues his research on the spatial properties of the text, its materiality, and concepts such as territoriality, horizon, landscape and habitat. Letters, words and text fragments inform his work, where a shift from content-specific to site-specific is attempted.
In The Middle of Nowhere, the notion of space – either as a utopian dimension or as the determination of a single physical point – arises through the condition of “reading” the works. The textual references used by the artist, such as Where Trees Never Grow (2018) and the in situ installation The Middle of Nowhere, are reformed and recomposed in space, underlining both their spatial status and their conceptual context.
