State of Concept opens two solo exhibitions and inaugurates new space

It is with great pleasure that we announce the opening of two solo exhibitions at State of Concept on the 15th of November, as well as the expansion of the space in Koukaki neighbourhood in Athens, and the inauguration of a new chapter in our exhibition making, entitled State Affairs.

On the 15th of November, on the top floor opens the solo exhibition of Czech artist Ζbyněk Βaladran, with a new series of works, produced by State of Concept Athens and Are |, together with older works of the Czech artist that represented the Czech Republic at the Venice Biennial in 2013.

Ζbyněk Βaladran lives and works in Prague. His work is characterized by a symbiosis of text and image, his films characterized as visual essays, commenting on contemporary society, inspired by philosophy, history, science and politics. His works have been exhibited at the 55th Venice Biennia, Palais de Tokyo, Jakarta Biennial, Kunsthaus Basel, National Center of the Arts Mexico, Lyon Biennial, New Museum New York, Centre Pompidou a.o.

At the new lower floor of Tousa Botsari 19, a second exhibition space is inaugurated which will be developing a separate chapter of exhibitions, entitled "State Affairs", dedicated to artists that work mostly with video, and will present artistic practices that focus on thematics that are being narrated gradually through several artworks and a longer time span, and are distinguished for their interest in shedding light in historical conditions and how they affect contemporaneity.

State Affairs is inaugurated with the solo exhibition of Russian artist Anton Vidokle, his first exhibition in Greece. The exhibition entitled Immortality for All: A film trilogy on Russian Cosmism, comes to State of Concept after its presentation at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin this September and after a screening at Tate Modern this October.

Anton Vidokle was born in Moscow and lives between New York and Berlin. His works have been exhibited in documenta13, 56th Biennial of Venice, Bergen Assembly, Biennial of Shanghai, the 65th and 66th Berlinale, Biennial of Gwangju, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Tate Modern, Garage Moscow, Istanbul Biennial a.o. He is co-editor of e-flux journal.
