4U is a group exhibition in two parts examining intimacy in distance and distance in intimacy. Invited by Haus N to inhabit the gallery for the months of May and June, 650mAh approaches the exhibition as a research project developing and changing over the course of the two months. Mirroring the duality of the exhibition’s focus, 4 u is split into Part 1 & Part 2, creating both separation and interplay between the two parts and their evolving artworks. Part 1 sees 650mAh invite artists Margarita Bofiliou, Roxman Gatt, Maria Gorodeckaya, Vasilis Papageorgiou, Larissa Pham, Claudia Pages, Trevor Shimizu and Valinia Svoronou to exhibit works relating to intimacy and distance. Part 2 sees 650mAh respond to their residence in Athens over the two months by inviting Athens-based and international artists to contribute works.
Part 2 will launch with an event on 23 May 2019 also featuring a screening of Hito Steyerl’s film Lovely Andrea.
From 9 May 2019, Larissa Pham’s interactive online poem hidden file will be viewable on www.650mah.com/blahblahblabhalh.
On Thursday 23 May 2019 at 8pm, 650mAh will host a screening at Haus N of Hito Steyerl’s 2007 video Lovely Andrea.
“...Lovely Andrea relates to the search for a photography taken in Tokyo around 1987. The photo shows the artist half naked and tied up, a bondage picture in the nawa-shibari style, characterised by women bound and suspended in the air. Today Japanese bondage is a subgenre of pornography. But it developed from the martial arts, hojojutsu being the act of using of a rope to capture, transport and torture criminals. An aestetic act from the start, only in the late 19th and early 20th centuries did it acquire a sensual and erotic dimension...” [Manuela Ammer]
